Having a morning routine has a bigger impact on success than you may think. How you start your day determines how the rest of your day will unfold and how you’ll feel as you go about your day. If you haven’t created a morning routine for yourself yet, don’t worry- it’s never too late! And if you’re looking to start one, you might as well take a look at 10 things successful women do each morning to implement these things into your own routine.
Morning Routine Ideas: 10 Things Successful Women Do Each Morning
1. They Wake Up Early and Don’t Hit Snooze
It’s amazing what an extra hour-or even half an hour can do for you in the morning. Instead of feeling rushed and frantic trying to get out the door, you can take your time and ease into your day. Waking up early gives you time to do more of the things below, whether you want to get a workout in, read a book, or make an energizing breakfast.
Successful women also don’t hit snooze! When you hit snooze you tell your mind and body that you’re lazy and that you’re not devoted to your goal of waking up early.
2. They Don’t Reach For Their Phone
Reaching for your phone first thing in the morning can cause unnecessary stress and anxiety. Checking emails before you get to work will make you feel like you should be working, and scrolling through your social media feeds is a major waste of time you could be spending doing something more nourishing for your mind and body. Successful women focus on themselves first, before diving into work and social media.
Sleep with your phone outside your room so you’re not tempted to check it as soon as you wake up. Another great tip I’ve heard is to put it on airplane mode until you’re ready to start your day. This way, you can leave it in your room as your alarm clock, but you’re not bombarded by texts and emails when you go to turn off your alarm. I still think it’s more tempting to check it if it’s right beside you, so try to leave it outside your room if you can.
3. They Plan Their Day
Successful women always plan their day out ahead of time. They use a planner and write down their to-do list at the start of the day (or even the night before) so they know what they have on the agenda. Planning your day, or going over your to-do list when you sit down in the morning, makes you feel like you’re in control of your day. You’ll feel organized and ready to take on your to-do list full force!
4. They Move Their Bodies
While some successful women do full on workouts in the morning, others do at least a quick stretch, walk outside or at-home workout session. Moving your body in the morning will energize you, relieve stress and enhance your mood so you’re happier and more focused throughout the day.
5. They’re Mindful
Mindfulness is so incredibly important and it’s part every successful women’s morning routine. Whether this means doing a 10 minute meditation, writing down three things you’re grateful for, practicing yoga, or doing some breathing exercises, being mindful ensures you’re in tune with yourself all day.
6. They Eat An Energizing Breakfast
Scarfing down an energy bar while you run out your door doesn’t count as an energizing breakfast. A proper morning routine consists of taking time to make yourself a nutritious breakfast that will fuel you throughout the morning. If you’re worried about time, making a healthy breakfast doesn’t need to be an extravagant endeavour.
You can even prep to night before with a healthy overnight oats recipe, or hard boil eggs you can put onto your avocado toast. Other great, quick options are Greek yogurt with granola and berries and toast with peanut butter and honey or jam.
7. They Hydrate
Your body becomes pretty dehydrated while you sleep, so it’s really important to re-hydrate it when you wake up. Drink a big glass of warm or room temperature water (you don’t want to shock your system with cold water) to get your body hydrated. Adding a slice of lemon and a pinch of sea salt will help you become hydrated even quicker.
8. They Read
Whether it’s the news, their favourite blogs, or a book, successful women read in the morning. They inform themselves, feed their minds and educate themselves. Whatever industry you’re in, it’s a good idea to read up on what’s going on, how to grow your business, or what you can do to improve your personal development.
9. They Make The Bed
Making your bed may not seem like a big deal, but it sets the tone for your entire day! Making your bed ensures you leave your bedroom feeling put together and organized rather than frazzled and out of sorts.
10. They Get Ready And Show Up For Themselves
Successful women always get ready and show up for themselves, even if they work from home. You feel a lot more productive and ready to take on the day when you do your hair and makeup and put on an outfit that makes you feel like a BOSS. When you show up for yourself you show up for your work.
How to Start a Morning Routine
If you’re one of those people who hits snooze until the very last second and gives yourself just enough time to get ready before your run out the door, you may be wondering how to start a morning routine in the first place.
First, you have to be committed to starting a morning routine. It may be tough until you make it a habit, but if you do it enough, your body will naturally wake up early and crave your routine.
Choose five to six items (or more) from the above list that you want to start implementing on a daily basis. Which ones stick out to you as the ones that would bring you the most joy? Your morning routine should make you feel excited to wake up and get out of bed each morning. It should make you feel good, so create a routine of habits that fuel you and that you enjoy.
What do you think? Are these things you can see yourself implementing into your morning routine? Let me know what your morning routine looks like in the comments below- I’d love to hear about it!
