10 of the Best Restaurants in Toronto (My Favourite Spots for Food & Drink!)

One of my favourite things to do in the city is go out for good food! Luckily, Toronto has some of the most amazing restaurants, with not only delicious menus, but gorgeous decor, great ambiance and stellar service! When it comes to dining out, everything needs to come together to create an unparalleled dining experience and these places know how it’s done! Take a look at 1o of the best restaurants in Toronto- according to moi!

1. SARA (Japanese-Inspired Sharing Plates)

SARA opened last fall and me and my friends tried if for the first time a few weeks ago. Oh. My. GOSH. It is one of (if not THE) best restaurants I’ve eaten at in Toronto! Every dish was so incredibly flavourful- we loved everything we got and couldn’t get enough! It’s a sharing-style menu with lots of small plates to choose from- our top favs were the squash latkes, shanghai pork dumplings, wagyu reuben, snap pea slaw and the PB&J for dessert.

The atmosphere and ambiance are so great and we had an amazing server!! They also have secret table compartments where you can place your phones if you want, so you can enjoy each other’s company! I highly, highly recommend SARA and can’t wait to go back!

2. Rosalinda (Vegan Mexican)

Rosalinda is another restaurant that recently hit the Toronto food scene. A vegan Mexican restaurant located in the city’s financial district, the feel-good interior is full of good vibes, with lots of plants, velvet seating and fun wallpaper, and the food is incredible! I went for a small bite and ordered the potato and mushroom flautas and a cocktail. The flautas were so delicious and I can’t wait to go back for a whole meal!

3. Piano Piano (Italian)

Piano Piano is hands down one of the best restaurants in Toronto. Their food is superb and their interior and exterior decor is unrivalled. It’s the perfect blend of sophisticated and fun, and the menu is full of mouth-watering plates. Their calamari is amazing and I love their mushroom cavatelli. My dad is a big fan of their grilled octopus and their pizzas are also incredible! Anything you order of this menu will definitely be a hit!

4. General Assembly Pizza (Pizza)

General Assembly is probably my favourite pizza restaurant in Toronto. I’ve been to the restaurant a couple times, but we order it in for pizza nights on the regular! The pizzas are so well-made, with fresh and flavourful ingredients. My favourite is the King ‘Shroom and Stefan loves the Sweet Heat. We also always get the Shredded Kale Salad to share- it’s incredible!

5. Chubby’s Jamaican Kitchen (Jamaican)

If you’re looking for a restaurant with fun, feel-good vibes and scrumptious food, head to Chubby’s Jamaican Kitchen! The tropical decor has you feeling like you’re enjoying an island getaway, whether you sit downstairs, upstairs or on the outdoor patio in the summer!

The kale pomegranate salad is an absolute must, as are the likkle Jamaican patties, slow-baked jerk wings, and of course, their signature jerk chicken! Make sure you like spicy food, because they definitely bring the heat!

6. Campechano Taqueria (Mexican)

Campechano is my go-to place for tacos in the city. It has such a cool vibe, especially at night and the food is amazing and affordable. Make sure to get the guac to start, and honestly any taco you go with you’ll love! The cocktails are really amazing too- I usually go for the pineapple mojito or sangria!

7. Gusto 101 (Italian)

Gusto 101 has been a long time favourite of mine. Located in a repurposed garage, their menu boasts plates that put a modern flair on Southern Italian classics, and it never disappoints!

My go-to meal is the mafalde ai funghi (a mushroom pasta in a truffle cream sauce), and another favourite is the cavolo caesar salad. I’ve also had their pizzas, which are delicious, but honestly, I stick to the mushroom pasta 99% of the time.

8. Saving Grace (Brunch)

If you’re looking for a good brunch spot in Toronto, Saving Grace is one of the best! It’s a small spot, so go super early or prepare to wait, but don’t worry, it’s always worth it! From what I can tell from the few times I’ve been there is that their menu changes, but there’s always some version of classic brunch dishes like French toast and egg medleys. Add in a coffee or tea and you’re good to go!

9. Planta (Plant-Based)

Planta is a trendy vegan restaurant located in Toronto’s Yorkville area. They offer upscale plant-based options like a Thai noodle salad, coconut ceviche, southern crispy tofu and a variety of plant-based pizzas!

It’s a beautifully decorated spot that has attracted lots of attention from vegans and meat-eaters alike! Planta Burger is also amazing if you’re looking for a good plant-based burger! Stefan’s obsessed with it and is a big meat eater, so you know it has to be good!

10. Tennessee Tavern (Eastern European)

If you’re looking for a more casual spot with AMAZING food, Tennessee Tavern is the place for you. Serving up authentic Eastern European dishes, it’s a kitschy, quirky spot decorated with string lights and vintage finds. The menu is incredible- the pierogies are an absolute must, as is the smoked fish platter.

The veal schnitzel is amazing and the cabbage rolls are tasty too! Having grown up with lots of Eastern European food (my grandma was Hungarian and my grandpa, Polish), I can vouch for the quality of this food!
