If you’re feeling like you need a little boost in a certain area(s) of your life, rest assured that you’re not alone. Almost everyone I know wishes they were at least one of the above: More wealthy, healthy, successful, productive, happy, self confident/self-loving. The important thing to remember is these are all skills that can be acquired through habits. Good habits can take time to create, but once you’ve got them down, they can completely transform your life. The life-changing habits in this post are habits I’ve implemented over the past year or so. Some I’ve been doing for much longer, and some implemented a couple months back.

Either way, the combination of these habits has helped me get where I am today and I know they’ll help me get to where I plan to go in the future. Here are 10 life-changing habits to adopt today to start living your best life!

1. Develop a Quality Morning Routine

A quality morning routine is a make or break if you want to be successful. The great thing about a morning routine is that you can design it around your personal needs and preferences. One thing you should make sure is that you wake up early every morning. Give yourself enough time to get your routine in before starting your work day.

I read The Miracle Morning about a month ago and used it as inspiration for my morning routine. These days, my routine consists of doing a 5 to 10 minute meditation, reading my affirmations out loud, looking over my vision board, reading for 15 to 20 minutes, writing in my Five Minute Journal and going over my plan for the day ahead. I also like to make a healthy breakfast and cup of tea and don’t look at my phone until after my routine is finished.

2. Meditate

Meditation has become a very beneficial part of my morning routine and something I suggest everyone does daily. With so many thoughts (positive, negative, rational, irrational, stressful, joyful, and everything in between) constantly bombarding our minds, it’s important to be able to control them and sit in silence with yourself each day. Mediation has been shown to help with everything from boosting productivity and focus, to reducing stress and anxiety, enhancing self awareness and promoting better sleep. All of these are key aspects to becoming successful and more prosperous in one way or another.

3. Sleep with Your Phone Outside Your Room

This is something I recently started doing after reading The Miracle Morning and it has made a world of a difference! I used to sleep with my phone right beside me and it was way too tempting to check texts/Instagram right before going to bed and instantly when waking up. I would even check it in the middle of the night sometimes if I woke up to go to the bathroom. NOT. GOOD.

Now I sleep with it outside of the room completely. I still use it for my alarm, so it works out well that I have to actually get up out of my bed to turn it off. A good trick I learned is to put your phone on airplane mode overnight, so if you need to use the alarm you can shut it off in the morning without seeing any emails or notifications that came overnight. Or of course, you can get an old school alarm clock! 

4. Read 10 Pages of a Business or Self Development Book Every Day

If you want to be enhance your life, continued learning is essential. One of the best ways to keep your mind sharp and get your creative juices flowing is reading 10 pages of a business or self development book every single day. If you can read more than that, go for it, but 10 pages should be the minimum. Reading will help you think about your problems and situations in different ways and come up with new solutions. I used to think I didn’t have time to read and put reading on the back burner. But lately I’ve been making time for it (almost) everyday and it has become one of my favourite parts of my routine! 

5. Start a Gratitude Journal

If you aren’t practicing gratitude on a daily basis, it’s time to start today. Many people go through life without taking time to recognize everything good they have. If you’re having a bad day, this is one of the best ways to turn it around. Focusing on what you do have and what you’re grateful for is an instant mood booster and provides you with so much perspective. If you have food in your fridge, a roof over your head, good friends you can call, you have things to be grateful for. You can practice gratitude in different ways, and one of the ways that’s worked best for me is a gratitude journal. I use the Five Minute Journal daily and it always reminds me to focus on everything good I have in my life, especially on days that feel like they’re not going my way.

6. Create and Consistently Look Over Your Goals

It’s hard to get ahead without goals. Create goals for yourself, and make them SMART goals (specific, measurable, attainable, relevant and timely). Having goals ensures you’re on the right track to get where you want to go in life. I have goals for different areas of my life from my career to my blog to my fitness to my finances. I love creating goals and checking them off once they’re done!

7. Make an Action Plan for Your Goals

It’s one thing to have goals. It’s a whole other thing altogether to create a solid action plan to reach your goals. Without a plan, your goals are likely to fall by the wayside. For each goal you have, list out action steps and a timeline to get you to that specific goal. This will help you attain your goals in a more efficient and effective matter!

8. Get Smart with Your Finances

Knowing where you’re at with your finances is an essential habit to adopt for so many reasons. You should know how much money is going in and how much is coming out of your account on a weekly, or even daily basis. And you should also know where your money is going. If you’re not already, check your bank statement daily. Create a budget for yourself and stick to it! Set up an automatic transfer to your savings account each month or every two weeks. And most importantly, don’t save what’s left after spending, spend what’s left after saving! 

9. Develop Healthy Habits

You’ll be most successful when you fuel your body and mind with healthy habits. First off, make healthy meals for yourself. Fill your body with healthy, whole foods and plan out your meals so you’re not buying fast food and unhealthy snacks everyday. Next, get active at least 4 times a week. Whether you prefer jogging outside, taking dance classes, spinning, HIIT workouts, or whatever else, get your heart pumping and blood flowing as many days a week as you can. And don’t forget to drink water! Lots and lots of water!

10. Take Time to Recharge

Life is often very go-go-go, and that’s why it’s so important to take time to recharge. If you’re always hustling, it’s likely you’re going to hit burn out eventually, and it’s hard to come back from that. Schedule time in your week that you’ll use to recharge. Whether this means detoxing from your phone, cooking or baking, reading a new book, watching Netflix, going on a date night, getting into nature, or anything else that refuels your soul, do it!

  1. the morning routine is IT for me. Coffee, about 10-15 minutes of yoga which can range from yoga warm-ups and easy poses, to sun salutes, plus breathing, & meditation. Sets me up for my day. Put on washing tec and do a few chores after, as I get ready….
