Full disclosure: Until a little while ago, I thought the whole idea of manifesting was a little woo-woo. I’m totally aware of the power of the mind, but I didn’t give much consideration to the process of manifestation. Once I started looking into it more, I realized why it makes so much sense and how it continually has such a high success rate. Put simply, manifesting is intentionally creating what you want, from wealth to health to your dream job, and pretty much any and everything else you desire.
For me it makes so much sense – if you’re constantly thinking about and putting positive energy towards what you want in life, you’re more likely to take the steps to get there and build your dream lifestyle. But it’s important to know how to do it. So today, I’m going to be sharing 7 steps to manifesting your ideal life, and how it all started working for me!
The Power of Thought
Your mind is a very powerful thing. What you tell yourself and feed your mind every day has the power to lift you up or bring you down. Life is full of twists and turns. The thing is, when the low times hit, you have no control over them, but you do have control over how you deal with them. I just started reading the Miracle Morning and if you haven’t heard Hal Erod’s unbelievable story already, I’ll give you a short recap: When he was 20 years old, the car he was driving was hit head on by a drunk driver. He technically died in the accident and they brought him back to life, but he was told he’d never walk again. He bounced back and eventually became an ultra-marathon runner.
A few years after his accident, he hit rock bottom again, going into $425,000 of debt and a deep depression he didn’t know if he would ever get out of. One day he was sick and tired of being sick of tired and decided he was going to turn his life around, pay off his debt, and be successful and happy again. He created the Miracle morning that very morning, and is now an international keynote speaker, author and success coach. I’ll say it again, the mind is a very, very powerful thing. Once you truly realize that, you can create any type of life you want.
1. Elevate Your Mindset and Vibration
It’s very hard to get ahead in life if you don’t have a good mindset. Your mindset has the power to keep you where you are (or worse, set you back), or propel you to your wildest dreams. One thing I love to do every morning to get my mindset right and raise my vibration is write down the things I’m grateful for. This reminds you not to dwell on silly things and be thankful for the things you have, even if it’s materially not a lot. Are you and your family healthy? Do you have a roof over your head? Do you have food in your fridge? Are you able to read and write? These are all things to be incredibly grateful for.
If you’re committed to manifesting your ideal life, your mindset is the first and most crucial thing you need to work on. You’re not going to be able to create your dream life with a negative Nancy mindset, so if you know you let negative thoughts rule your mind, start changing what you feed your mind. Listen to motivating podcasts, read self development books, switch negative thoughts to positive ones. It may take time and some hard work, but it will make all the difference.

2. Write it Down
The second step to manifesting your ideal life is writing down exactly what you want. Be specific and give yourself a timeline. So, for example, instead of writing down “I have a lot of money in my savings account”, write something like “It’s January 1st 2019 and I have $10,000 in my savings account”. Of course the date and number would be customized to you. Write down whatever you want to manifest in all areas of your life from your relationships to fitness goals to your career. This will help you get and stay clear on what you want. And don’t worry if your desires and goals change. Be open to whatever you’re feeling and go with the flow.
3. Create a Goal Statement
Another thing I’ve done is create a goal statement. This pretty much sums up everything you wrote down in step 2 and puts it into a statement. Let’s say you have a dream to own your own bakery, start writing a best selling cookbook, pay off your credit card debt, get married to the person of your dreams and buy a beautiful home. First, you’ll want to create a timeline for these things to happen.
Once you’ve done that, your goal statement would read something like this: “It’s January 1, 2021. At the end of last year I opened the doors to my brand new bakery, which is already booming with customers. We have trustworthy staff and amazing bakery chefs who have brought my vision to life. I’ve started writing and photographing meals for my cookbook with a wonderful team. My finances are in check and I haven’t had credit card debt for the past two years! Last July I married my person and we bought a beautiful home shortly after”….and so on and so on.
4. Read it Morning and Night
Reading my goal statement is part of my morning and nighttime routine, and this is changing my life. I read it right when I wake up after I write in the Five Minute Journal, and before I open whatever book I’m reading at night.
This is what I’ve noticed: When you’re consistently seeing your dreams written out in front of you and getting them into your mind, you do things during the day that help you reach those dreams. If you write your goals down, but don’t look at them, you won’t always think about them and are less likely to move towards them. It’s really crazy (and amazing) to see the things in your goal statement come true, but they really do start happening!!!
5. Start Taking Action (Big and Small)
Some people don’t believe in manifesting because it seems too good to be true – you think about and write things down, and all the sudden they start happening? That would be too good to be true. The truth is, you have to work with the universe to manifest your ideal life. If you laze around on your couch all day doing nothing, you’re not magically going to launch a best selling cookbook just because you wrote it on a piece of paper and read it morning and night. You need to start taking action.
At the beginning of each day, write down 3 things you can do to get closer to your ideal life. These can be “smaller” things like reading 10 pages of a business or self development book and resisting the temptation to buy a Starbucks latte to save money. Some days you should be taking more substantial actions. Let’s say you want to start a social media management company, you might have a goal to write out a business plan, conduct audience research, or reach out to 10 potential prospects that morning. Big or small, you should be doing at least three things every day to get you closer to your goals.

6. Take Note of What’s Coming to You
This one is very important. We don’t always realize when we’re given a sign that the universe is helping us, but it’s so important to take note of these things no matter how insignificant they may seem. For instance, one day I noticed what I thought was a discrepancy on my credit card statement. I was dreading calling my bank because it’s just an inconvenience and it’s not always a pleasant experience, but this time turned out to be a great experience. The employee I talked to was so nice and he helped me change my credit card to one with lower interest. It seems small, but a lower interest rate definitely helps my goal to pay off my credit card faster! Take note of things that happen throughout your day and write them down in a journal each night.
7. Live like You Already Have What You Want
Try your best to act, feel and live as if you already have the things you want. This comes with what you tell yourself, what you tell others about you, the air you carry and the things you do in your every day life. And remember, if someone else has or does what you dream of doing, it means it’s totally possible for you to have/do it too.
One of my biggest frustrations is when I hear someone say “It made me sad visiting their beautiful home because I know I’ll never have one like that” or “I can’t look at her Instagram photos anymore because my life can never be like that”. If someone else in this world has done it, that means anyone else can do it too. You just have to put in the work, which not everyone is willing to do. I’ll leave you with one of my favourite quotes by Henry Ford: “Whether you think you can, or you think you can’t, you’re right”.
