I’m all for self care every day, but for many people Sunday in particular has become a day filled with restlessness and anxiety; Sunday Scaries if you will. In complete honesty, I never really get the Sunday Scaries. I love what I do and I get to work from home so never dread the end of the weekend, but I do remember the feeling of Sunday Scaries and whether you get them or not, I think Sunday is a great day to relax, recharge and treat yourself.

The most important thing to keep in mind is self care is different for everybody, and you’ll likely need different things on different days. Sometimes you’ll need a full day lazing around and watching TV or reading a book, while other days, getting together with a group of friends will be the best self care you can imagine. With that in mind, here’s a list of some things that make me feel good, rejuvenated and ready for the week ahead. But always make sure to do you!

1. Make a Delicious Breakfast (and Enjoy It)

Sunday mornings are usually pretty lazy in our apartment. We take our time getting out of bed, put on the kettle and whip up an indulgent breakfast- usually eggs benedict and avocado toast, or tortillas with hummus, eggs and hash browns. Then we watch a few episodes of a Netflix show while enjoying it. Weekday breakfasts are always so quick and hectic, so it’s nice to take the time to actually enjoy and indulge in a homemade breaky!

2. Change Up Your Scenery

It can be nice to laze around in your apartment all day, but when the weather is nice, get outside to enjoy the fresh air. Take a walk, check out a new coffee shop, go visit a friend, read a book in a nearby park. Changing up your scenery can make you feel invigorated and refreshed.

3. Plan your outfits and lunches for The Week ahead

Planning can take so much stress out of weekday mornings. For me, lunches are the one meal I really get stuck on. If I don’t plan out what I’m going to eat, I usually whip up something quick and unhealthy or just snack instead. I love doing a grocery run on Sundays! It helps so much to plan out your meals for the week ahead and stock up on whatever you need.

Planning outfits is really helpful too. Sometimes I waste SO much time figuring out what I’m going to wear. Look at your schedule for the week ahead. Note whatever events, meetings, or evening plans you have and plan your outfits accordingly!

4. Go for Brunch with Friends

Sunday brunch has to be one of the best things ever invented. Why let all the fun end on Saturday night, when you can get a group of your best friends together and mow delicious eats? Add in some mimosas and could there be anything better? I also like to dress up for Sunday brunch. It makes me feel good, so why the heck not?

5. Unplug

I don’t know about you but I’m pretty much always “plugged in”. So much of my work is online and on social media that I feel like my face is in my phone or laptop 80% of the time (at least). And then there’s the mindless scrolling. Sundays are a great day to unplug and enjoy time away from your screen. Try your best not to check emails, Facebook or Instagram, and just enjoying doing things you love most. Live and be in the moment as much as you can.

6. Write list of goals for the week

If you’re a goal setter like me, this one’s for you. Having a weekly list of goals helps you stay on track for your big goals you want to accomplish in the future. This could be anything from going to the gym a certain number of times, to hitting a certain income level, to reaching out to more clients, to getting to a certain number of networking events, etc. Look at your short and long term goals and write out what you can do during the week to help you reach these goals!

7. Indulge Your Personal Zen

As I mentioned above, self care is different for everyone. While one person may think yoga is an amazing self care activity, another person may find yoga totally unappealing. Indulge your personal zen, whether that means meditating, hiking, binging on Netflix, gardening, taking a walk, reading, watching your favourite movies, baking, cleaning your house, etc. Whatever makes you feel good, do it. And do a lot of it!

8. Write out to do list for next day

I always feel so much better when I write my to do list for Monday morning. I actually like to schedule out my entire week on Sunday, but it usually gets shuffled around. I find when I do that, I can go into the week with a clear head about what I need to do and when I need to get things done. Lists and scheduling have a way of calming me down, so I always make sure to do that before I go to sleep on Sunday!
