Happy Friday babes!! I don’t know about you, but I love any type of hack that will improve my life, and Sunday hacks are some of my favourite of all! So many people spend their weekends anxious and sad because Monday is just around the corner, but Sunday should be spent doing enjoyable things and prepping for a productive week ahead!
Let’s talk about Sunday Scaries for a second. You know, “the moment when Sunday stops feeling like Sunday and the anxiety of Monday kicks in.”
I remember feeling like this all through elementary school and high school. And while I absolutely loved every second of University (even Sundays), the dread hit again when I entered “the real world”. From retail jobs to internships, I always felt a pit in my stomach on Sundays when I knew I had to go into work the next morning. Even when I liked the work I was doing, the fact that I had to report to someone and felt like there was always someone judging my work, I didn’t feel like I was in control of my own life, or happiness.
Now that I work for myself, I love Mondays. I seriously do. They’re a start to a new week and every week brings something different and exciting. I’ve also put into play a few hacks that have made my Sundays, and in turn my Mondays, two of my favourite days of the week!
If you want to beat the Sunday Scaries (and Monday Blues), here are 7 Sunday hacks for a better week.
1. SCHEDULE THINGS IN YOUR PLANNER
I love heading into Monday with a clear vision of what my week’s going to look like. Yes, there will be last minute meetings and events that spring up throughout the week, but taking the time to schedule ensures you know exactly what’s happening throughout the week and how to prepare. Schedule in time for meetings and networking events, workouts and grocery shopping, date nights and girls’ nights.
This is what I use to plan my weeks, you need it in your life!!!
2. DO SOMETHING
Sitting around moping and feeling anxious about work isn’t an ideal way to spend your Sunday. Always make sure your Sunday is filled with activities that are productive and distracting (in a good way). Spend your time doing things you love, whether that’s taking a yoga class, cooking, spending time with friends, or working on your passion. Redirecting your attention or being absorbed in an activity your love will help prevent the anxiety from creeping up.
3. GET SOCIAL (IRL)
Sitting in front of your laptop with Facebook open or scrolling through your Instagram feed can make you feel even worse than you already do. Getting caught up in all the fun other people had over the weekend can make you feel like crawling up in your bed and pulling the blanket over your head. Instead, meet up with your favourite people to chat, brunch, or just chill out. Being around friends and family can make you feel awesome.
4. TRY A NEW RECIPE
Sundays should be nice and relaxing, and it’s the one day of the week where I really give myself time to try out a new recipe either from one of my cookbooks or from Pinterest. I like doing a grocery shop for the week on Sundays, and I’ll always look up a recipe for Sunday night so I can pick up the ingredients at the same time. Get creative and keep it healthy. You don’t want to be low energy on Monday, and keeping it healthy on Sundays can help your mood and productivity.
5. CATCH UP ON YOUR READING
I have to admit, reading has been put on the back-burner for the last few years, but over the past couple of months I’ve made it a priority to read every day and there’s really nothing better. On Sundays I give myself even more reading time and really let myself get lost in my book. Right now I’m reading The Slight Edge and The Subtle Art of Not Giving a F*ck and I’m obsessed with them both!!
Check them out on my reading list!
6. TIDY UP
I feel most productive and in the zone when I wake up on Monday and my apartment is in order. If it’s cluttered or messy, I feel like I have to clean up before doing anything else. Before going to bed on Sunday, do a quick tidy of your space. Whether there are dishes that need to be done, recycling that needs to be taken out, or furniture that needs some dusting, get it done before you start your nighttime routine. You’ll feel great waking up on Monday to a clean, de-cluttered space.
7. GO TO BED EARLY
Mondays are so much easier to embrace when you’re well-rested. You’ll have more energy to tackle your week and can get through Monday with a clear head. Feeling tired and anxious is not a good mix, so get into the routine of going to bed early on Sunday night Give yourself time to unwind and get ready for bed. Do whatever feels relaxing for you, whether it’s reading a magazine, taking a bath, doing a face mask, or all of the above. Try not to look at your phone for at least an hour before bed, so you can fall asleep easily.
