The holiday season is almost here, and festive gatherings are already filling up my agenda. I’m so excited to attend holiday parties this year, but I’m even more excited to host my own. There’s something about getting your friends and loved ones together in the chilliest season that makes this time of year the best of all.

Every year I love dressing up for big holiday bashes, but some of my favourite gatherings are with a small group of friends where we chat and indulge in mouth-watering food and drink. 1) Personalize the Charcuterie Platter

One thing I love so much about a charcuterie board is that you can completely personalize it to the fixings you and your guests love most. And you can provide a range of options. Does one of your friends love blue cheese while another can’t stand it? Put blue cheese on the board, along with another cheese your other friend enjoys. I like to have a variation of meats and cheeses, crackers and baguette slices, and olives and raspberries make for a festive and delicious touch!

2) Prepare the Charcuterie Ahead of Time

The last thing you want is to be stuck putting together the charcuterie while your guests are walking in the door. The great thing about a charcuterie board is that it’s relatively quick to put together, so I would suggest getting started on it about half an hour to 45 minutes before your guests arrive. This gives you some time in case they arrive early and it also gives you lots of time to cut, chop and place the fixings on the board. Of course, this will also depend on how many guests you have and the foods you’re using. If you have lots of things to cut up, give yourself more time.

3) Choose Your Wine Wisely

When you’re bringing people together, you want to make sure the wine you’re serving is exceptional quality and easy to drink with the charcuterie. This also means you don’t have to spend your entire pay cheque on cheese and vino. Buy enough so that you can refill the board and glasses a few times when they run low, but there’s no need to run yourself dry at an already expensive time of year! Plus, you can also ask your guests to bring any extras they may want.

    1. Great question! You could do it any time you like, but I would suggest evening (start time anywhere between 5 and 7). It can definitely take the place of a meal if you want it to – I’ve had quite a few nights where we just eat charcuterie fixings and it’s so filling! Just make sure you have enough to fill people up, depending on the size of your party 🙂
