Hey guys! I’m so excited to introduce a new segment of my blog: Monday Musings! One of the goals for my blog this year is to get a little more personal and connect with you guys on a deeper level, so on Mondays I’ll be sharing my thoughts on pretty much anything on my mind, from a cool event I attended to lessons I learned to my new favourite cafe. Hope you enjoy!
EVENT: Lipstick and Muffin Media “A Brand New Me”
Lipstick and Muffin Media threw our first entrepreneur seminar on Saturday and it was such a huge success! Preparing for and running an event can be super stressful, but all the hard work always pays off in the end! I’m so humbled by everyone who came out to learn and network with us. The guests were all so engaged and we received so many amazing comments and kudos from everyone who came out.
It touched me to see a community of female entrepreneurs coming out to connect with each other and hear the stories of other amazing entrepreneurs. Creating a supportive community of #girlbosses was our main goal when we started our company back in September and it’s so amazing to see everything happening so quickly.
My favourite part of the event was getting to hear the inspiring stories of our speakers. The panel got so much deeper than I imagined and I wouldn’t have had it any other way. Everyone has a unique life story and it’s rarely an easy road.
I find it’s so easy to look at someone’s success and not think about what they may have gone through in their lives to get to this point. It’s not our fault. We don’t know the story until they share it, but it was a great reminder to always be kind, because you never know what ANYONE has been through.
And the BIGGEST thank you to our team! We couldn’t do it without you guys!!! (PS. I only wore sneakers for the clean up 😛 !!!).
TORONTO CAFE: Baddies
Last Monday I caught up with a friend (and her adorable baby boy) at Baddies, a café on Toronto’s west side, right beside Lansdowne station. If you live in Toronto and have yet to visit this spot, put it at the top of your list. The space is small and intimate (there’s four or five 2-person tables), with striking minimalist décor, and a wall of windows that compliments its bright, airy vibe.
There’s no wifi, so it’s the perfect place to go to catch up with friends, read a book, or write. I tried the almond milk latte, which was perfectly strong for a Monday morning, and for brunch, we both got the vegan smashed avocado (avocado on a polenta fritter with pickled beets, greens, and a side of chilli jam).
Needless to say, I will definitely be heading back there soon!
TRAVEL: Lisbon and Barcelona
I have a number of exciting trips coming up this year, including a jaunt to Lisbon and Barcelona in the summer with my boyfriend. We’re just starting to do research on places to go, things to do and the best spots to eat and drink, but if any of my lovely readers have any advice or tips on your favourites, I’d love to hear them!
BOOK: Big Magic: Creative Living Beyond Fear by Elizabeth Gilbert
I have to admit, I’ve really been taking my time reading this book. I don’t read it every day (I’m switching between it and another one) so it’s taking me longer than expected, but I have to share it with you guys.
Every time I read a new section, I can relate to it so much and feel incredibly inspired. The book is about living creatively, with all the ups, downs, challenges and successes that come your way, whether you’re a writer, painter, creative business owner, makeup artist, fashion stylist, or anything else that fits under the creative umbrella.
Fear is the one thing that holds so many people back when it comes to pursuing their creative dreams. Gilbert has found a fun way to share her journey and life lessons in order to inspire her readers to stare fear in the eye and live the creative life they want.
If you’re feeling stuck as a creative, or simply looking for an inspiring read, this is it!
RECIPE: Coconut Curry Stir Fry Noodles with Glazed Tofu (Healthy Nibbles and Bits)
I made this recipe for the second time on Sunday and it is DELISH. It’s definitely going to be a new go-to. It’s pretty simple to whip up and flavours from the glazed tofu and coconut curry work perfectly together.
I had never glazed tofu before trying out this recipe and now I’m going to do it anytime I make a tofu stir fry (no, I’m not vegetarian, but I DO love tofu and will usually order the tofu option if there is one at a restaurant). It gives such a nice flavour to the tofu, which on its own is pretty bland, and a cool texture too.
I left out the coconut aminos, and used maple syrup instead of agave and soy sauce instead of tamari sauce. Work with what you’ve got, right? I also substituted with my favourite veggies!
What did you guys learn and love last week? Tell me, tell me!
