Since I was young I always knew I wanted to work for myself, I just didn’t know exactly what I wanted to do. Being a blogger, social media specialist/influencer, online content creator – these weren’t even possibilities when I was younger because they didn’t exist yet. Now I work for myself as a freelance writer, I’m in the process of turning my blog into my business, and I have a special project in the works that I can’t wait to share with you guys!

Being an entrepreneur is the dream for a lot of people, but it is a LOT of work. All of your success and profit depends on the work you put in, plus a little bit of good timing ;). The thing about working for yourself is that your work never really ends. From writing articles and blog posts to promoting your work on social media, to networking to planning and booking clients, it’s exciting and overwhelming all at once. And it’s really important to keep your health in mind and not let it fall by the wayside.

Today I’m sharing with you my 5 top tips for how to stay healthy as an entrepreneur on the go!

1. Stay active
Whatever it is you do to stay active, make sure you do it 3 to 4 days a week. Right now, yoga and spin classes are my favorite ways to get my heart beat up! Exercising has been proven to boost motivation and creativity, reduce stress, and kick your endorphins into gear. As an entrepreneur it’s so important to take time out of your busy schedule and get your heart pumping and blood flowing!

I find the weeks I don’t work out to be much more draining and unproductive. When you run your own business, you’re the one who needs to keep things in motion, so make sure you’re doing your best to stay active and fit every week!

2. Maintain a healthy diet
When you’re always on the go, it can become habit to eat out. Try to make the majority of your meals throughout the week so you can maintain a healthy diet. Here are some of my favourite quick and healthy recipes for each meal of the day:

BREAKFAST

1. Avacado Toast via Minimalist Baker

LUNCH

3. Drink tea
I’m such a tea lover it’s not even funny! As soon as I wake up I turn on the kettle and sip away throughout the morning. Coffee makes me extremely anxious and jittery, whereas tea has the perfect amount of caffeine to wake me up, yet keep me stress-free.

I used to work at a tea store and learned about so many benefits of my favourite hot drink. Each type of tea is good for something different, so I love to switch it up to get different benefits on the daily. I’ll break down some of the best below:

Green tea: high in anti-oxidants and caffeine, boosts your metabolism and brain function (aka creativity and productivity!!!)

Black tea: lots of anti-oxidants, increases your energy, reduces stress, boosts your immune system, enough caffeine to keep you going throughout the day!

White tea: anti-oxidant and anti-aging properties, great for your skin, reduces stress and increases energy!

Oolong tea: improves mental alertness, sharpens thinking skills, boosts your metabolism and aids in digestion, strengthens your immune system.

Rooibos and herbal: no caffeine, keeps you calm and stress free, low in tannins.

4. Get social
No, I’m not talking about social media. Make sure you carve out time to hang out with friends, family and whoever makes you the happiest. When you’re an entrepreneur a lot of your time can be spent on your own, which can sometimes get lonely.

Meet up with friends on your lunch break, take a fitness class together after the work day’s done, catch up over dinner and wine, binge your favorite TV show together. A proper balance of work and social gatherings will keep you from becoming a workaholic and going a little stir crazy!

5. Get a good night’s sleep
I’ve never had a problem getting to sleep at night, but I know it’s something a lot of people struggle with. Especially since everything is always “on” (social media, email, etc.) there always seems to be something more to do at the end of the night.

Try your best to turn off early and get a proper night’s sleep. 7 to 8 hours is ideal and I feel that’s how much sleep I need to feel really great when I wake up in the morning. Whatever that number is for you, make it work! Instead of checking your emails and scrolling through Instagram, read a book, meditate, or take your stress out with an adult coloring book or journal!
